Free shuttle service to transport students to London airport and VIA station during exam period

On Wednesday last week, the University Students’ Council approved a free shuttle service that will take students to the VIA Rail Station and the London Airport during the winter exam break. This pilot project will run from December 8th to December 20th from 4:30am to 6:30pm, to assess whether students will utilize this service.

In the past, students have urged the USC to provide transportation for those who do not have accessible ways to get to the airport or the train station during the winter exam break. Consequently, the USC has developed this initiative in order to address these concerns.

Additionally, this project will help to fulfill one of USC President, Adam Fearnall’s original platform points and will be funded by a surplus from the Mustang Express Student Fee last year.

“This is something that got great reaction during my campaign last year, and it is nice to pilot the project to see if this is something students will want in the future,” stated USC President, Adam Fearnall.

Tony Ayala, Vice President of Finance, continued, “We are very fortunate to have the ability to fund this pilot project and will be looking very closely to how the service is utilized by students. Additionally, we have made sure to do our due diligence in our research to come up with a system that is the most cost-effective for the project.”

  1. Good question! We did a survey in October – more than 800 students took part — and the results showed that there was a need for morning shuttles. In fact, the 4:30am time slot currently has 18% of all bookings, second only to the 2pm slot.
