Canada Post in University Community Centre to cease operations
After years of declining revenue due to the nature of the changing market and student demand for the Post Office in conjunction with the recent changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program application process, the Canada Post in the University Community Centre lower level will be closing.
The main function the post office has served for students was the ability to mail in OSAP applications through during the school year. Recently, the OSAP program has moved the bulk of the application process online, greatly diminishing the need for a Canada Post outlet on campus.
USC Vice President Finance, Tony Ayala stated, “The USC is currently on the tail end of a 5 year contract with Canada Post and will not be renewing it. If we were to renew the contract, the space would require a mandatory $60,000 capital upgrade. Given the current market situation, we can’t justify sustaining the losses on top of the additional costs to students.”
Canada Post will cease operations on May 31, 2013.
