The USC looking for enthusiastic volunteers to take part in annual CYOA Leadership Conference
The University Students Council is pleased to announce the Choose Your Own Adventure Leadership Conference is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be a part of the Leadership Development Team as a Leadership Developer (LD). The CYOA leadership conference is an initiative run through Western’s University Students’ Council for under-privileged youth in London.
Primarily, this initiative focuses on grade 8 students across various schools in London to promote the importance and pursuit of post-secondary education. For one weekend in May (10th to 12th) Leadership Developers will act as a mentor, guide and friend to these grade 8 students and show them why Western is an amazing school and why they should pursue post secondary education.
The conference is in its seventh year of operation and continues to grow, expand and continue in its success. Last year was the most successful conference yet with 150 grade 8 students participating as well as a leadership team of 50 university students (selected from over 200 applicants).
The CYOA leadership conference provides Western students with the unique experience of giving back to the London community by showing youth why Western and post-secondary education is such a great opportunity. Being an LD is a humbling experience that exposes students to things they have never done before. Additionally, training is provided in order for students to better understand group dynamics, leadership etc.
Vice President of University Affairs Alysha Li stated, “We are here to inspire the leaders of tomorrow and to ensure that these young minds can seize all the opportunities available to them!”
If you would like to be a part of this amazing initiative, applications are due February 10, 2013 and are available HERE.
