University Students' Council hosts Choose Your Own Adventure early outreach conference
The University Students’ Council (USC) is proud to present the 7th annual Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) Grade 8 Early Outreach Conference this weekend at Western University and Fanshawe College.
CYOA is a dynamic weekend aimed to empower low income, at-risk youth in London to pursue post-secondary education after graduation. The conference provides the youth delegates with the support and encouragement to pursue their dreams and chart their own futures through activities such as mock lectures from Western University professors, inspirational speakers from the London community, budget management presentations to students and parents, a volunteer fair, and a “My Action Plan” session for youth delegates to create individual paths to success. Additionally, delegates are mentored by university student volunteers who are Leadership Developers for the conference.
This year, the conference is hosting over 130 delegates from nine schools in London with over 50 Leadership Developers from Western University.
“There are often significant barriers to at-risk youth to pursuing post-secondary education, including financial, informational, and motivational The Choose Your Own Adventure Conference aims to provide student delegates with the tools and opportunity to overcome these barriers, as well as to empower them to follow their passions,” explained Alysha Li, USC Vice-President University Affairs.
This life-changing program has impacted over 750 youth in London and 250 Western student leadership developers over its seven years in existence. The USC hopes that this number will continue to grow, leading to exponential impact in the community and in the lives of youth in London.
