USC, Western University and LPS promote safe and enjoyable Homecoming

London, ON – The University Students’ Council, Western University and London Police Service are partnering to provide a safe and welcoming Homecoming environment for all members of the Western Community.

This partnership has developed a multi-faceted program including more on-campus activities during the Homecoming weekend and outreach to off-campus communities.

“The goal for this year’s Homecoming is that all students and alumni will have an enjoyable, but safe weekend,” said USC President Matt Helfand. “With even more activities planned on campus, we’re hoping the entire Western community will come together to celebrate our university’s unique spirit and history.”

Enhanced on-campus activities include a special Western community event and live concert on Concrete Beach starting Saturday at 9 am, prior to the Western Mustangs vs. University of Toronto Varsity Blues football game at TD Stadium starting at 1 pm.

Leading into Homecoming weekend, representatives of the USC, Western and LPS are also working together to connect face-to-face with students in neighbouring off-campus communities that have significant student housing. They hope that by canvassing homes prior to Homecoming weekend, they can encourage respectful behaviour and inform students about celebrating appropriately. This neighbourhood canvass will take place beginning Tuesday, September 16th and will be led by student leaders from the USC, joined by representatives from both Western and LPS.
