Fridays at Midnight. Most Movies now play from Digital Prints with using the full screen and surround system!

These movies will be shown with our Digital projector which creates a picture as good as our regular evening shows. Digital Projectors play most movies from DCPs (Digital Cinema Package). The picture is HD and the audio is uncompressed, discrete 5.1 channel surround sound.

Certain movies not available as DCPs, such as The Room, will play from other high quality video sources.

We pick the movies based on past performance and what our audience requests. Please e-mail any midnight movie title suggestions to wfilm@uwo.ca
Notes about certain films:

Not all films are available as DCPs yet. We expect more films to come available as time goes by.

Western Film cannot play The Rocky Horror Picture Show. There is too much risk of damage to the theatre (or the patrons).
Certain films are ‘out of service’ to theatres. This means the Studio will not allow us to play them including: Blade Runner, Star Wars (all of them).

Some films do not have Canadian theatrical rights so we can’t legally play them including: Akira, Donnie Darko, Evil Dead, Heathers, Near Dark, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Show up in Costume and get Free Admission! (must be a costume from the movie playing and it must be obviously a costume. No showing up in street clothes and claiming to be an extra in The Room).

Cult films are always screened at midnight, so make sure you’ve got a way home!!

Questions? – FAQ.

THEATRE QUESTIONS: Q: Is Western Film open to the public or is it just for Western Students? A: Western Film is open to anyone who wishes to see great movies at a great price. Q: Is Western Film a ‘real’ theatre? A: Western Film uses the same equipment as other more expensive theatres. We have a full 6 track digital sound system and large bright screen. In many ways we are better than other theatres, as a single screen we pay more attention to small and not so small details such as making sure the image is focused. We use the same DCP digital prints as other theatres. Q: Is Western Film open on the holiday? A: Western Film is open 7 days a week except for about three weeks at Christmas. The only other time we would close is when the University is closed due to snow, etc. Q: Is Western Film Digital? A: In Feb 2013 Western Film installed a Digital Projector which generates a sharp bright image and six tracks of uncompressed audio. This conversion was quite expensive however 35mm film is coming to an end and we would have had to close if we couldn’t go digital. Q: Why is the price $5.00? A: As a second run cinema we pay a lower fee to the Studios so we are able to charge less. The trade off is that we have to wait for the more expensive theatres to finish with the films. Seniors, children and Tuesdays are $3.50. Q: Why does Western Film not show movies in 3D? A: When Western Film installed our...
